I ask because the floor jack for automotive that I am familiar with has no screw machines in it. It is a steel frame with 4 heavy wheels at the corners and a long lever arm that does the lifting being driven up by a hydraulic cylinder underneath. The source of the lift is a small pressure cylinder at the base of a long rear handle which is pumped up and down to lift. The handle also, using different methods in different brands, controls valves to raise, lock and lower the lifting arm by valving the fluid in the main cylinder.
The bottle jack has a threaded screw inside the main cylinder into which is turned a matching threaded rod with a pad on top. The threaded rod is used to adjust the height before lifting so the hydraulic force is applied without a lot of frantic pumping just for movement. It is not used as a screw machine – that is it is not turned under force to ramp up the rod. The force is applied by a small cylinder on the side being moved with a lever arm. A release valve lowers the piston.
