automative lif rasise a 3500lb car 7ft above floor level if the hydraulic cylinder contain 8in diameter piston?

An automotive LIFOtraisese a 3500lb car 7ft above floor level if the hydraulic cylinder contain 8in diameter piston and a 4in diameter rod, determine the
A. work necessary to lift the car
B. required pressure
C. power if the lift raises the car 10 s
D. Descending speed of the lift for a 10-gpm flow rate
E. flow rate for the auto too descend in 10 s

Chosen Answer:

All these answers based on 8 inch lifting cylinder. You haven’t specified anything about the 4 inch rod so haven’t used that in these answers

a). work = force x distance
work = 3500 lb x 7 ft = 24,500 ft-lbs of work
b) 8 inch diameter piston = area of pi * r^2 = 50.26 sq inches
3500 lb / 50.26 in^2 = 69.6 psi pressure
c) power = work / time = 24,500 ft-lbs / 10s = 2450 ft-lb/ second
(one foot-lb /second = 0.738 watt so –> 2450 * .738 = 1,808 watts of power in SI system)
d) volume of a cylinder = pi * radius squared * height
one gallon = 231 cubic inches
10 gallons = 2,310 cubic inches
V =2,310 cubic inches = 3.14 * 4in ^2 * height
height = 2310 / (pi * 16) = 45.96 inches

So 10 gallons a minute will lift car or descend car 45.96 inches or 3.8 feet a minute

e) Flow rate to descend in 10 seconds instead of a minute is 6 times faster (60 sec a minute / 10 sec) = 6.
6 * 10gpm = 60 gpm

Using Hydraulic Scissor Lift Tables in Small-business

Hydraulics system is very powerful system that can apply a huge amount of force in moving an object. That is why in scissor lift tables which is used for lifting heavy objects, hydraulic systems can be applied. Hydraulic scissor lift table is a small equipment and yet a very powerful equipment that could lift extremely heavy objects. It can lift heavier objects compared to the regular scissor lift tables. Since scissor lift tables are small in size, it makes it easier to be stored in any desired location.

Hydraulic Scissor Lift Tables for Lifting Extremely Heavy Objects

Scissor lift tables are so powerful in that it can be used to lift objects such as heavy trucks, machines and other heavy objects that you can think of. Its rods can extend longer compared to other type of scissor lift table.

Hydraulic scissor lifts as elevator

There are times when hydraulic scissor lift tables can be used as elevators. It can be used perfectly when you need to go to different high locations and yet no cost elevators exist. Using hydraulic scissor lift tables are a cheaper compared to the regular elevator. The good thing about hydraulic scissor lifts is that it can be moved from 1 place to another.

Disadvantage of Using Hydraulic Scissor Lift Tables

One major disadvantage of most designs of hydraulic scissor lift tables is that it moves slowly when it is nearly fully extended or when it is nearly contracted to its original position. In between these 2 extremes, hydraulic scissor lift tables move quickly but with inconsistent speed.

Safety checklist

Hydraulic scissor lift tables can be used in different places.

Some are used in construction sites and some are used at the local grocery market. However there are a few certain points that a person should consider when using the hydraulic scissor lifts. A person when using the lift should never overload the machine as it could lead to serious complications

  • Different manufacturers of scissor lift tables have different designs of hydraulic scissor lift tables. Having said that, they also have different instructions on how you can operate it. Before operating scissor lift tables, make sure that you read and understand the instructions on how to operate. This is needed to ensure the safe use of the equipment.
  • Do not overload the scissor lift table. Although hydraulic scissor lift tables are design to lift up heavy objects, it still has limitations. Overloading the equipment can damage the equipment which may cause more casualties when damaged while operating it.
  • Check it before you use it. Make sure that you test if its fully working before you operate it. Doing this can help you maintain your equipment and it also prevents possible casualties that is caused by operating under its damaged condition.

The Importance of Hydraulics Hoses – Proper Maintenance and Repair in Machinery

Hydraulic machinery is important to every industry in the modern world due to their spectrum of uses and applications. It is used in the automotive industry, aviation industry, manufacturing industry and the list goes on and on. Hydraulics work as such: An incompressible liquid, typically oil, is put into a chamber with two pistons on the end. When a force is applied to one end of the chamber or piston, the force is exponentially applied to the other piston, significantly reducing the amount of strength needed to lift, move and stop heavy objects. While hydraulic technology has proven to be revolutionary, it can also be extremely dangerous with malfunctions. Serious personal injury can occur from both the hydraulic machinery and fluid, seeing that some contain dangerous chemicals. For example, brake fluid, a type of hydraulic fluid, is toxic and flammable. While not all substances are dangerous, it’s recommended to regularly examine the hydraulic machinery and hoses for potential damage and leaks.

Hydraulic hoses are particularly important due to the fact that carry the fluid needed to power the machinery. Should one of the hoses become damaged or extremely worn, it is essential to repair or replace it as quickly as possible so that the machinery doesn’t receive major damage. The most common reason why hoses malfunction is from external physical damage i.e. crushing, pulling, kinking and excessive abrasion. Spiral wraps and security clamps can also be attached to circumvent various abrasion problems. While the repair cost of the hose is expensive, when hoses malfunctions there are many other issues that can arise such as introduction of contaminants into the fluid system, additional damage to adjacent components and recovery of hydraulic fluid. Routine checking of the hoses and can help prevent these incidences. Like all products, hydraulic hoses have a limited lifetime. The rubber tube and covering on the hose are sensitive to the extremes of temperature, as well as large pressure changes. Based on the material and elasticity of the hose, extreme hot and cold temperature can adversely affect the duration of the hose. While it’s possible to repair hoses, most people choose to replace the entire hose, greatly reducing the risk of further failure. Hoses are a fundamental part of the hydraulic systems, but unfortunately they are frequently overlooked until a malfunction occurs. Being especially attentive to the machinery and hoses can prevent enormous damage to the equipment and monetary loss.

Breakthrough in automotive electronic braking systems development – automotive electronic braking sy in System

In the car with quick response and simple structure to replace the traditional hydraulic braking system, the industry to discuss in a few years ago, many auto parts companies have been conducting research and development. Compared to conventional hydraulic brake system, electronic brake system eliminates the need for hydraulic wheel cylinders, parking brake, brake master cylinder, vacuum booster, hydraulic pumps, brake force distribution, brake system in order to achieve the simplification, the entire preparation lower quality, the growth of passenger compartment space, and can reduce the braking distance. Siemens VDO

snow in Sweden last year on electronic wedge brake system test, a test vehicle equipped with EWB from the speed of 80km / h brake to completely stationary, the braking distance of just 64.5 meters. And with a traditional hydraulic brake system ESP at the same speed and road conditions, the average braking distance to 75 meters, a full 10.5 meters shorter. This means that the test vehicle equipped with EWB system has completely stopped when the traditional hydraulic brakes are still to 30km / h speed ahead.

Obvious advantages of electronic braking systems applications in the aviation industry has been very common, and have confirmed the outstanding braking performance of the system. The reason why the delay has been applied in the car, there are two main reasons. The first is the high cost of electronic braking systems, and the second is the electronic braking system may be a result of interference of other signals misuse, whether the car’s use of the environment even worse than the planes and complex, professional users also less than the aircraft.

The conventional hydraulic braking system will not be around and pulsed electromagnetic signals affect their normal work, still has the advantage of simple and reliable.

Bosch , China and Siemens VDO automotive parts companies have a team of outstanding research and development charge of electronic braking systems. Recently, some European media reports, China’s breakthrough in the braking system, and abandon the familiar wedge-type structure, the new design effectively solves two problems mentioned above, are close to mass production requirements. But the continent’s program only in rear electronic braking system, which can compromise the future EWB Figure with electronic brake system complete, while borrowing the traditional hydraulic braking system to control costs, thus promoting technical progress.

If all four wheels on the electronic braking system, the cost increase than the conventional hydraulic brake system 20. And reliability is always the problem of these companies value most, if once the need for the recall, the company will be difficult to sustain this great loss, Mercedes-Benz brake system recall was classified as low reliability of advanced braking system typical cases.

Although the prospects of electronic braking system is very objective, but also a very large R & D costs. The Government does not provide funding for these components to support business cases, research and development can not be mass production will cause great resistance, the mainland choose compromise should be a desirable way, which will speed up the production of EWB System pace.

I am trying to find a diagram of the inner workings of a floor jack for paper. Can anyone help me?. . .?

I know it operates on both hydraulic and screw principles but I need understand how the machines are combined to for the floor jack device. Can anyone help me out here? Thanks.

Chosen Answer:

Are you talking about the floor jack used in automotive applications
or a floor jack for raising floors, also called a bottle jack.

I ask because the floor jack for automotive that I am familiar with has no screw machines in it. It is a steel frame with 4 heavy wheels at the corners and a long lever arm that does the lifting being driven up by a hydraulic cylinder underneath. The source of the lift is a small pressure cylinder at the base of a long rear handle which is pumped up and down to lift. The handle also, using different methods in different brands, controls valves to raise, lock and lower the lifting arm by valving the fluid in the main cylinder.
The bottle jack has a threaded screw inside the main cylinder into which is turned a matching threaded rod with a pad on top. The threaded rod is used to adjust the height before lifting so the hydraulic force is applied without a lot of frantic pumping just for movement. It is not used as a screw machine – that is it is not turned under force to ramp up the rod. The force is applied by a small cylinder on the side being moved with a lever arm. A release valve lowers the piston.

Buying Tips for Hydraulic Lifts in Lift

For material handling and carrying heavy loads, hydraulic lifts are widely in use. The basic mechanism behind a hydraulic lift working is the use of hydraulic fluid and cylinder to raise and lower objects. Infact, the whole mechanism of the working of various heavy machines is dependent on the use of these lifts and they are considered much better than the usual traction lifts.

The market is offering a wide range of hydraulic lifts depending on the application areas. There are personal lifts or elevators which are seen in tall buildings, apartments and commercial areas. There are table lifts, dock lifts and pallet and fork lifts, used in construction sites, manufacturing units, industries and factories. Today, hydraulic lift is the base of many machines that are used for lifting and carrying of heavy loads. It has safe control systems and hence can easy be operated. The best part is that it consumes less power.

As already mentioned, there are different hydraulic lifts, made with different specifications, which in turn depend on the application. For buying hydraulic lifts, certain factors or specifications need to be considered which we are discussing below:

Total Floors
It is necessary to know the number of floors the lift is made of as most lifts are made of 1 to 3 floors. To meet the requirements of the buyers, the manufacturers must produce lifts with different floors .

Load or Weight Capacity
It is also necessary to know the weight capacity of the load that the lift can carry.

This is measured in  kilograms or pounds, the smaller ones in kg and the heavier ones in pounds.  So you need to find different suppliers to find the lifts with different load capacities.

Lift Speed
To carry the objects up and down, the speed of the hydraulic lift must also be known. This is expressed in meter per minute or inch per minute. Learn about the varied speed limits needed for different applications and accordingly you make choice of the lift that you want.

Requirement of Maximum Height
Another factor to consider is the maximum height that can be achieved.  This is required because each lift depending on its design has its own upper limit or maximum height to which it can carry the load. When load is required to be lifted to a specific height, the buyer should buy the lift of that height or slightly more than that.

Size of the Platform
The platform or the rack on which the objects are kept are not of equal size.  The size of the platform depends on the load capacity. The buyer should consider the length and width of the lift platform.

Power Required
The buyers should also know the power required to run the hydraulic lifts and whether it should be connected to single phase or three phase power input.

Lastly, hydraulic lifts should be purchased considering their application. For example, the lift used in a construction site is different from the lift used in a car repair center. Different specifications are associated with different applications.

Hydraulic Motor in Motor

A hydraulic motor is part of a hydraulic drive system that uses pressurized fluid to move a cylinder and make a machine function. An electric motor, combustion engine, or some other type of generator, pressurizes hydraulic fluid through a series of valves and pipes to control the system. This fluid physically pushes either a hydraulic cylinder or motor and drives the machinery. The motor itself is the actuator that converts the fluid’s pressure into torque and rotation.

Gears can be added to a hydraulic motor to change the level of torque administered to a specific operation. For example, a military vehicle that needs to travel over many different types of land will have different gears to control the amount of pressure used to push the hydraulic motor. Pavement will need less hydraulic power to move the vehicle, while dirt or mud may need more.

Different types of plungers or pistons can be used in the motor. The most common type is an axial plunger. The pistons for the motor are designed to be parallel to allow for continuously adjustable sweeps to make the hydraulic motor operate more efficiently. Speed of the hydraulic motor ranges from 1200 to 1800 rpm. In order to increase the speed of a hydraulic motor, radial pistons can be used. These pistons make short sweeps in the engine, allowing for increased speed. However, the maximum level of torque decreases as an effect of these short sweeps.

One of the disadvantages of a hydraulic motor is that it allows for leakage through a connection in the drive system.

This helps prevent the engine from locking up as it turns. This means that the motor needs some sort of braking mechanism to ensure that the system remains properly secure. It also requires routine monitoring of gauges that display the fluid levels. A safe operating system is important for the continued use of the machine.

First developed during the 1700s, hydraulic motors are notable for the fact that they can produce more power than other motors of the same size. They can take on larger loads than traditional electric motors and are most commonly used in aircraft, construction vehicles, and automobiles. In addition, a large volume of industrial machinery uses hydraulic motors to perform heavy lifting tasks and in situations that require strong pressurized actions such as injection moulding. These can be constructed as small components to a complex mechanism or one very large hydraulic motor performing a single task.

Hydraulic Motors For All Repairs in Motor

Hydraulic motors are driven by hydraulic pumps and are ideal for operating a number of different systems on a piece of equipment using the same motor and pump system. The basic premise or operation of all hydraulic systems is the same, it is what is known as a closed loop system that allows a pressure level to be built up within the system, which in turns provides torque or force to move parts.

The compact size and high torque produced by hydraulic motors makes them perfect in a wide variety of applications. They are used in vehicles as well as in elevators and heavy equipment. The motors can be very small to huge in size and multiple motors and pumps can be sequenced together to produce constant high pressures required in manufacturing, construction and fabrication types of applications. Getting the right hydraulic system for the job is essential to ensure you have the power you need when you need it.

Since the pump, tubing and liquid in the system, which is typically hydraulic oil, must have a constant pressure for the motor to function, it is essential to maintain the hydraulic system on a regular basis. If there are leaks within the system pressure cannot be maintained, putting additional stress on the motor and reducing overall power output. Output for these motors is typically measured in horsepower which is determined by the pounds per square of pressure multiplied by the gallons per minute of oil flow through the system. Different hydraulic pumps have different horsepower ratings, which will be important in selecting a replacement pump or when choosing one for a new hydraulic system.

The hydraulic motors are also rated in several other ways as well.

This will include the displacement of the motor, which can be fixed or variable. Displacement in general refers to the volume of the hydraulic fluid that is required to turn the shaft of the motor, which is what provides the mechanical power of the motor. Generally this is measured in inches cubed or centimeters cubed. The higher the displacement the more liquid that is required but also the more power generated. Fixed displacement motors have the same torque at all motor speeds. A variable displacement motor allows for different speeds and torque, which allows the motor to adjust output based on the load on the system.

Each motor also has a pressure rating, which is the maximum pressure that the motor can be operated at. If used in systems with more pressure than the rating there is a much greater likelihood of leaking within the motor and increased risk of damage to the motor. Having the right pressure rating is essential– it is acceptable to go higher but going lower is a huge risk.

Hydraulic motors are also designed for specific viscosities or thicknesses of oil or liquid within the system. Oil temperature is also an important consideration, especially when operating in industrial types of applications or in high temperature settings. The viscosity rating is critical if the equipment is to be operated in very cold weather since oil has to be adjusted to a lighter weight oil in cold temperatures to keep it flowing through the sealed system.

Measuring the dimensions of the various hydraulic motors that meet specifications can also be an essential consideration, especially for replacement motors. There are some very compact, high power motors now available, so you do have options as to the height, length and width of the motor as well as the specific shaft length required.
